Cotton is stuck as traders are itching for a move.
On Tuesday cotton had an inside day, with both the high and low staying within the previous days’. The tight range saw the trade as a willing seller on any moves approaching 6600, while locals tried but were unsuccessful in their efforts to push March above 6600 and into anticipatory stops.
Options saw selling and in particular the January 66 straddles (simultaneous sale of both the put and call option) were sold down to 70 points. Now, I’ve been around awhile and that is the lowest I can remember seeing a straddle being sold for with 3 days till expiration. That means in a nut shell, that it looks like somebody expects this market to go nowhere for the time being. I tend to agree and see no reason to act unless March can move above 6620 or below 6450. Otherwise play the range.
