After a big turn and a run, some profit taking
Cotton prices opened trading limit up and then went limit bid, trading as high as 7370 (synthetically) before trade selling (resulting from farmer equities changing hands) and some spec profit taking, brought sufficient pressure to thwart another limit close. Electronic trading, which had been stymied by the limit moves started up again with 25 minutes left in the outcry session. Given the situation, you have to wonder why ICE management doesn’t reconsider killing outcry trading in the pits as it handled the volume well today and it is a built in back-up system.
Anyway, you could argue that consolidation is necessary after running the two minute mile in thirty seconds. It’s healthy for a market to catch its breath. Also, a temporary lid may have been found, so expect a test of support. I suspect you could make a case for trading cotton from either side now.
Admittedly, I’m tired and need to rest up for tomorrow, so I’ll keep this brief. Thank God for Denice. She’s the best and keeps me straight. When you speak to her let her know what a good job I think she does.
